Our Worship

The heart of Bromley Parish Church is the weekly Parish Eucharist at 10.30 each Sunday. In this celebration we join with Christians throughout the world and across the ages to follow Jesus’ command to “do this in remembrance of Him.” You are welcome to this and all services.

Music

Music is a central part of our worship and we try hard to sustain a fine Choral tradition. Our Excellent four part mixed choir, led by Tom Corns produces traditional choral music of a very high standard indeed and we are privileged to have a marvellous modern Walker organ which has just been refurbished. We support the future of Church music by providing an organ scholarship for a young organist who can benefit from the best teaching and a wonderful instrument for practice. We also make use of the best modern Church music and from time to time bring together young musicians in the congregation to form a band.

Further details

8 o’clock

This is a quiet said service using “Common Worship order 2”. Order 2 is the same as the traditional Book of Common Prayer service and those who value the traditional language and order of service will find it familiar to them.

The Parish Eucharist

The Parish Eucharist is the main service each Sunday. We use the Modern language “Common Worship Order 1” service. There are hymns and choral music. There is usually a number of young families at this service and there is a crèche to help parents look after small children. Sunday school is held at the same time as the service. On the third Sunday each month this is an “All Age” service; it is much more geared to the needs of children and young people and they take a full part in it by reading and leading prayers etc.

Evening worship

Our Evening Worship varies from week to week according to the following pattern
1st Sunday of the month :
On first sunday evenings we have an event entitled "first SUNDAY" after a brief evening act of worship which includes readings and choral music we have a 'meaty' address on an important topic of interest to Christians.
2nd Sunday : Experimental worship
Something different each month; it may be a formal act of worship in Church but it might just as easily be informal in the Church rooms; there may be traditional music and or modern music. Sometimes it will be a youth service. Often there will be a high level of congregational participation.
3rd and 5th Sundays : Choral Evensong
What we might call the high point of our Evening ‘diet’. Most of the service is sung by our marvellous choir and we worship through some of the greatest music ever written
4th Sunday : “Common Ground”
An ecumenical service in which we join with our friends in the Methodist and United Reformed Churches in one or other of the three buildings. It takes place here one month in three. This service makes extensive use of worship resources from the Iona community.

Weekday services

Weekday services take place either in the “Children’s Chapel” or in the Chapel of the Resurrection. For Morning and Evening Prayer and Holy Communion we use the modern language “Common Worship” service. Holy Communion on Wednesdays uses the Book of Common Prayer.
