The Choir |
| |
| The church has a long and rich
musical tradition which it maintains to the present day. |
| |
The Choir of Bromley Parish Church |
| |
Bromley Parish Church Choir helps to lead the worship
every Sunday and on many other Feast days and church occasions.
It is composed of volunteer boy and girl choristers from the local
area, together with a committed group of adult singers of all voice
parts. |
| |
| The choir also undertakes tours both in the UK and
abroad and has recently sung at Westminster Abbey, Southwark and Rochester
Cathedrals and in Limburg, Germany. |
| |
| Several CD recordings have recently been issued by
the choir, including a disc of Christmas Carols. |
| |
|
| |
| The volunteer choristers at Bromley Parish Church usually
join the choir at the age of 7-11, and many have little or no previous
musical experience.
They rehearse before every sung service and on Thursday evenings.
The Director of Music, Tom Corns, welcomes
enquiries from children and their parents at any time. To see some
of the many benefits of being a chorister or for more information

| Bromley Parish Church Choir has a thriving adult membership
of sopranos, altos, counter-tenors, tenors and basses, and we are
always keen to hear from adults (including students and sixth-formers)
who may be interested in singing with our choir. Please look at our
music list to see what the choir is singing this term. A regular
schedule of rehearsals and services follows. For further information,
please contact the Director of Music, Tom Corns, by e-mailing music@bromleyparishchurch.org , or phoning 07984 032701. |

The Organ |
| |
| The Bromley Parish Church organ, built by J.W. Walker & Sons
Ltd., was designed to support congregational worship, to accompany
a traditional choir, and to be a worthy recital instrument for use
alone or with other instruments. It has 3 manuals and pedals, 40
speaking stops, 6 couplers, 3 tremulants, and comprises 55 ranks
with 2,708 pipes. The manual and pedal actions of the organ are mechanical;
the stop control is electro-magnetic with a solid state capture combination
action. The instrument was made and first assembled in Walker’s
workshops at Brandon, before being dismantled and installed in the
Church. The new gallery woodwork was also made by the organ builder. |
| |
| The organ cases, gallery and carved pipeshades were
designed by David Graebe. They are made of American red oak, with
hand-carved pipeshades of American basswood. Various materials from
many countries were selected for the construction: American maple
for the main structure, and poplar for carcassing and framework;
American basswood for the manual keyboards; Western red cedar for
the trackers; African obeche for the wood pipes; African blackwood
for the sharp keys and drawstop knobs. The natural keys are covered
with cow bone. The action parts are made variously of Hornbeam and
American maple, aluminium, titanium, and phosphor bronze, according
to their particular functions. The organ weighs approximately 12
tons and is maintained by Martin K Cross. David Sanger acted as consultant. |
