| In 1537 the rectory by order of Henry VIII was transferred
to the Bishops of Rochester who were to appoint, ordain and sufficiently
endow Perpetual Vicars. The incumbents therefore lost their rectorial
status and were from 1537 vicars or perpetual curates. |
